GOOD NEWS FOR THE SONS OF THE KINGDOM
At the 2012 “Safeguard Your Heart!” District Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses, a new brochure was released entitled “Good News From God,” published by the Watchtower Bible & Tract Society of Pennsylvania. The brochure is designed to introduce the fundamental teachings of the Bible, as interpreted by the Society, for use by Jehovah’s Witnesses in their ministry of directing interested persons to the Organization. The brochure is divided into 15 parts with selected questions and answers, including references to scriptures that are used to support the answers.
It is commendable that the Society is providing literature to support the preaching work. And we recognize that the elementary nature of the brochure is because it is designed to appeal to persons who are new to the Bible – those who ‘need someone to teach them from the beginning the elementary things of the sacred pronouncements of God,’ those who are “unacquainted with the word of righteousness.” (Hebrews 5:11-13)
We find, however, that what is needed most is literature to support the brotherhood – to develop ‘mature people who will have their perceptive powers trained to distinguish both right and wrong.’ (Hebrews 5:14) These mature brothers and sisters need to be strengthened and encouraged as well, so they can not only preach what is true, but also live in union with the truth.
Though the Society’s brochure is extremely elementary, we believe the questions raised in the brochure can be used to uplift and encourage the ‘domestics’ and provide needed spiritual food for them at this most proper time. And so we will utilize the format and questions of the Society’s brochure, but provide answers that are suitable for the anointed children of God, as well as those who are seeking a better relationship with God as their Father.
These articles can be downloaded for use in any ministry where one intents to share the plain and open teachings of Jesus as “ambassadors substituting for Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:20)
